DEX SHIELD: Maclean High School finished their rugby league season in emphatic style, with the Under 14s dominating The Daily Examiner Shield round robin series on Tuesday.

With solid defence and attacking flair, Maclean High kept both South Grafton High School and McAuley Catholic College scoreless to win both their games, 32 0 and 42 0.

“We quite lucky because we could of had another team, we had that many kids say they keen to play.”

“Josh Bridges and Julian Torrens also played really well and they made the difference,” White said.

White said the future for rugby league at Maclean High was bright with about 12% of the school population, both boys and girls, having played rugby league during the year.

“This is my fifth year at the school and it taken a while to get everything going but the confidence builds from here,” he said.

“The school morale is good at the moment and it all positive from here. Rugby league is a popular sport, and our success breeds enthusiasm.

“We had two games of football at our school oval and the whole school came down to watch and it was a great atmosphere. From that point we had a lot of girls interested in playing, and a lot of kids just wanted to be a part of the culture.”

South Grafton High School finished the round robin competition in second place after defeating McAuley 32 20 after Grafton High School was a late withdrawal.
